Awareness for ME-CFS

Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) affects more and more people worldwide, but research into the disease is unfortunately still in its infancy. There is a lack of resources for research, specialised personnel and, above all, the perception of those affected.

In Austria, around 60,000 to 80,000 people are affected, mainly young adults. About 25% of the sick are tied to their home, severe cases even bedridden. 60 to 70% are unable to work. Stimuli such as light, sound or touch can worsen the symptoms.

The Vienna Foundation WE&ME finances research that investigates the complexity of ME/CFS and enables effective treatments and a cure.
