Sun protection

Summer, sun, beach and the sea: holiday season is approaching! However, caution should be exercised while sunbathing. Because "frying" in the sun not only leads to premature skin aging, but can also cause skin cancer. The risk of skin cancer increases with every sunburn.

The best prevention is the right sun protection!

The ideal sun protection is individual. Not everyone can tolerate the sun equally well. Light skin types should use a suncream with high protection factor, while pre-tanned or dark skin needs a lower protection factor. Depending on the sensitivity of the skin, the radiation intensity and personal preferences, there are particularly well-tolerated hypoallergenic products and suncreams with a chemical UV filter or a mineral barrier.

It's advised to ask your local pharmacy for advice on the ideal sun protection.

Even if you are not in blazing sun, your skin is still exposed to the sun's UV radiation - don't forget your suncream, even in the shade or when it is cloudy!

Babies and toddlers need special protection from the sun: ideally with a very high protection factor (at least SPF 30, better SPF 50 ), headgear with neck protection and a T-shirt with UV protection.

Children under one year of age should only stay in the shade and wear a hat too.

You will find a large selection of special products for sensitive children's skin in your local pharmacy.

The best way to put on sun protection before going out in the sun is to renew it regularly , especially after swimming!

Attention: Even waterproof products must be reapplied after splashing in cool water, so that full protection is retained.

In the sun protection brochure "Sun without Regrets" , which was created by the Austrian Cancer Aid in cooperation with the Austrian Society for Dermatology, readers will find tips on how to use the sun properly, information on UV rays and skin cancer prevention as well as a comprehensive overview of the most important sun protection measures:

Don't forget to put on suncream, even in the shade or when it is cloudy!
